Mr. James Folks, one of the old settlers of this part of the country, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carey McInturff of Arapaho on Sunday July 1st at the age of 73 years. Mr. Folks had been failing in health for some time. He had spent quite a bit of time here with his son, J. W. Folks and family and also with his other children at different points, but for several months he has not been able to get about much and has been with his daughter Mrs. Carey McInturff at whose home he died. When Mr. Folks first came to this part of the country he lived at Port for quite a while, later buying a farm and moving to the Poarch community where he lived for several years. Being a good man and good neighbor he has made a host of friends wherever he went and all join in extending sympathy to the bereaved sons and daughters and other relatives. The remains were brought to Carter and the funeral was held at the Baptist church on Monday afternoon, Rev. Owens of Clinton conducting the funeral services. Interment was made at the Carter cemetery, a large crowd being present at both church and cemetery. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
