(6 Sep 1912, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Grandma Fowler, 111 years old, who for several years resided with her Grandson, J. M. Fowler, a mile and a quarter West of Carter, died Monday night after a lingering spell caused from a broken thigh, which she received from a fall. Her remains were entered (sic) in the Carter cemetery after a concrete box was built in the ground to receive her casket, with the idea in view that the remains might be removed at some later date. Grandma Fowler was the mother of seven children in time of the civil war, had lived, as she said, in all good conscience, and had been good woman during her life time. Mrs. Fowler was, no doubt, the oldest living lady in Oklahoma last Monday morning. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
