Henson, wife of Mr. K. T. Henson, postmaster here at Carter, died at the hospital in Elk City Wednesday afternoon about seven o'clock. The entire population in and around Carter was thrown into sorrow when the sad news came from Elk City Wednesday morning that Mrs. Henson was dying, and then late in the afternoon when the announcement came that she was dead. Mrs. Henson was carried to the hospital at Elk City last Saturday, but she had been ill for several days prior to that time. But on that day her condition became so alarming that it was decided to carry her to the hospital that evening. She gained no permanent relief however, although her husband and physicians thought she was some better on Tuesday morning, but on Wednesday morning it could be seen that she was sinking. Mrs. Henson had stayed in the post office quite a lot, besides clerking for different firms in the city, consequently she was well known throughout the whole country around and she will thus be sorely missed by the people generally as well as by her own immediate family. She leaves a husband and five children, four girls and one boy as follows: Marie, Gertrude, Earnest, Amy Beth and Dorothy. The two oldest and the two youngest are the girls. In the estimation of the writer, one of saddest things that we are ever called upon to witness in this life is to see a mother taken away in the prime of life, leaving young girls behind to grow up without the guiding hand of a mother's love. As this is written the funeral and burial rites have not yet taken place. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the grief stricken family. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
