All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************************* JONES, ISAAC (22 Feb 1918, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Uncle Isaac Jones of the Poarch community, died at the home of Sam Simpson, where he was visiting, Sunday afternoon about five o'clock of pneumonia. Mr. Jones had only been ill a short while, having contracted a cold when he returned to this state from a visit to Tennessee and Texas only a little over a year ago. Only a few days before his death the cold ran into pneumonia in its severest form, the disease attacking both lungs. He was over seventy years of age at his death. On his recent visit to Tennessee in company with Bluford Jones, a younger brother, he saw only one person back in that state that he knew, it having been fifty-one years since he left there. Two sons of the deceased, Arthur and Elmer, came in from Arizona before he died, they having been wired of his serious illness. A daughter too came from California, but did not arrive until after her father's death. Interment took place at the Poarch cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, the funeral services having been conducted at the Zion Chapel Church, by Rev. Lowery, pastor of the Free Methodist Church. (15 Mar 1918, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Isaac Jones was born at Livingston, Tenn., on the 28th day of July 1842. Departed this life February 17th, 1918, at 3 P.M. He was married to Rebecca Mahan in the year of 1868. To this union was born five children, two daughters and three sons. One daughter and one son have died and gone on before the father. Two sons and one daughter, with a host of relatives and friends remain to mourn his departure. Bro. Jones was converted in the year 1913 under the labors of Bro. Colson. He never united with any church, but was always ready with his presence and his means to carry on the work. The funeral services were held at the Zion Chapel Free Methodist. A large crowd of friends attended the services. His body was laid to rest in the Poarch cemetery to await the morning of the resurrection. The writer preached the funeral, using for a text, John 11:25-26; Job 19:25-27. M. M.
