The people of Carter were grieved when the news came the latter part of last week that Mrs. Charley Lane (nee Miss Freda Pearce) had died at her home in Tulsa, on Wednesday of last week of pneumonia. She had only been sick a few days, but it was known a few days before her death that she was in a dangerous condition, as her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pearce, had been called to her bedside from this county, also a sister, Mrs. Clarence Music, of Elk City, had gone to see her before the end came. Another feature in connection with her death that made it still more sad was that Charley was in the hospital at the time of the death of his wife and did not get to see her. He had happened to an accident while working in the oil field, just before Mrs. Lane was taken sick, in which one of his legs was broken in two different places, and he and his wife did not get to see each other after she was taken sick. Mrs. Lane left a husband and two small children, one of the children having been brought back here by its grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pearce, and it is likely, so we understand, that a sister of Mrs. Lane will look after and care for the other child. Deceased had some relatives and a large number of friends in and around Carter, who were made sad by the sudden and untimely death of their friend. The Express joins in with these friends in extending to the grief stricken husband, parents and other relatives our sympathy in their extreme sorrow. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
