(13 April 1917, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK):
Death of Mrs. Mitchel.
The sad news came to Carter on Wednesday afternoon of last week that Mrs.
G. C. Mitchel had died at Ft. Supply about 1 o'clock.  Her husband and
sisters and several friends were on their way up to Ft. Supply at the time
of her death.
The remains were brought back to Carter for burial which took place on
Friday morning.  A very large crowd of people were present at the cemetery
to pay their last respects to their relative, friend and neighbor.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Smith of Port.
It was one of the saddest funerals ever held here and the sympathy of all
went out to the bereaved husband and sisters.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to thank one and all for their kindness and assistance shown us
during the last illness and death of our loving wife and sister.  We can
never forget you one and all, who worked so hard to help us in our sorrow,
and we feel sure that everything in your power was done, and we wish to
particularly mention Dr. Denby, who did everything possible.
We trust that should this misfortunate ever befall one of you, that we may
be of some assistance.
