Although he had been in poor health for some time, he was not seriously sick till Sunday morning. He was born at Cedar Hill, Dallas county, Texas, February 22, 1875. He married there and lived there till about twenty-one years ago, when he moved to Oklahoma. He was very successful here, accumulating a handsome competency and building a reputation for sterling manhood that would ornament any life. He was a member of the Protestant Methodist church and the Odd Fellow Lodge, and lived up to the tenets of both organizations. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Nolan Porter of Sentinel and Lyman Porter, who is at home, a daughter, Miss Olga Porter, who is attending school at Weatherford, and a brother and sister. Funeral services were held at the family home conducted by Rev. C. C. Williamson of the local Methodist church. One of the largest gatherings that has paid tribute to the popularity of any citizen of this section attended his funeral and burial. At the open grave the Odd Fellows lodge rendered their beautiful burial ceremony, which was exemplified by the Granite degree team.
