B. Stewart died at his home out east of Carter last Friday morning, after a prolonged illness of many weeks. His physicians state that his death resulted from cancer of the stomach. He was 72 years old, and there survive him a wife and 9 children, 2 girls and 7 boys. All of the children were present at his death except one son living in Arizona. Mr. Stewart enjoyed good health it is said all of his life up to a few months ago when the disease developed that resulted in his death. In his death this part of the country loses one of its most worthy and useful citizens. The remains were laid away in the Carter cemetery Saturday afternoon, a good sized crowd of relatives and friends being present. At the cemetery a very appropriate address was delivered by Dr. Shadid. Although the doctor's address was short his words were well chosen and he paid a beautiful tribute to the life and character of his friend and comrade. The funeral discourse was delivered by O. E. Enfield of Shattuck, Okla., and was a brilliant mental feast for those present. This editor has no hesitancy whatever in saying that the discourse was the most reasonable, eloquent and brilliant funeral oration that it has ever been our privilege to listen to. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
