(2 Jul 1926, Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Was One of Carter's Most Prominent Citizens The relatives and many friends of Mr. M. M. Waldrop were severely grieved last Sunday afternoon when the sad news came in that he had died very suddenly of a ruptured blood vessel while visiting out at the V. E. Fink home in the Retrop community. He and Mrs. Waldrop had gone out there to visit at the Fink home when he was suddenly seized with a hard spell of coughing causing a blood vessel to rupture and resulting in death in a few minutes from hemorrhage. Mr. Waldrop had been suffering for several months with a severe cough, but had not thought about it being so serious as it was. Mr. Waldrop was one of the old settlers of this part of the country he having filed on his homestead place five miles east of Carter about twenty-eight years ago and he and Mrs. Waldrop kept this homestead till a year or two ago when they sold it to Mr. H. Luthy. Being such an old settler Mr. Waldrop was naturally well known throughout this entire part of the country, and would meet his friends wherever he went. He was an interesting talker and was very friendly with every one with whom he came in contact hence everybody was his friend. Besides his devoted wife he left behind several children to mourn his passing away. The children are as follows: U. N. Waldrop, Morris Waldrop, B. R. Waldrop, all of Carter; J. A. Waldrop of Rankin, and Will Waldrop of Beaver county. He also had a sister and a large number of grandchildren and other relatives. Interment was made at the Poarch cemetery on Monday afternoon, the fraternal order of the I.O.O.F. had charge of the burial rites and paid their respects to their departed friend and brother in a very impressive service. There was a very large crowd present to witness the service and to view once again the face of the one that all had held in the highest esteem for many years. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
