(25 May 1917, Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. Adam Winniger, a prominent citizen residing several miles southeast of Carter died at the home of his nephew, Will Capps, on the 18th, inst. Deceased was 72 years old at the time of his death and had never been married. He had been in bad health for the past four or five months, being afflicted with heart trouble, but was only confined to his bed a few days prior to his death. Mr. Winniger was an old settler of this country having owned a farm near Elk creek since the country was first opened up for settlement. He sold his farm, however, only a short while back. He leaves one brother and one sister living, Mrs. Capps of the Poarch community, being a sister. Interment took place at the Poarch cemetery Saturday. (1 Jun 1917, Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): A. W. Winniger, better known as Uncle Adam Winniger, died at the age of 72, Friday the 18th inst. at the home of his nephew Will Capps. Deceased was born in Clabor county, Tenn., and moved with his parents to Kentucky when young. At the age of nine years he professed religion and although he never united with the church he was a Sunday School worker and teacher in his younger days. In 1917 (sic) he moved to Oklahoma and settled on a farm which he worked up to the time of his death. He was a good honest and upright citizen and was well liked by all who knew him. He left behind one brother at El Reno, and one sister, Mrs. Capps, of Carter, of mourn his death. The remains were laid to rest in the Poarch cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by Rev.
