JAMES LEROY4 DALTON (LEONADUS HANNIBAL3, EDMOND2, WILLIAM1) was born October 13, 1911, and died March 20, 1938 in Carter ,Beckham Co.Oklahoma. Notes LeRoy Dalton,26-year old Carter man was killed instantly late Sunday night when the car in which he was riding struck a Bridge abutment near Carter.Driver of the automobile was Cecil DALTON,brother of the victim.The accident happened at the bridge on Highway 34,one-half mile north of 41 Highway.The two men were returning to their home when the tragedy occurred.According to information from Carter,Cecil DALTON related that he apparently had fallen asleep at the wheel and awoke just in time to avoid hitting the bridge abutment head on.He swerved the car in effort to avoid stricking the bridge,but the rear end of the light sedan crashed.LeRoy DALTON,asleep in the back seat,received the full impack of the blow.His head was badly crushed as the whole rear end of the automobile was torn off.He died enroute to a hospital in Elk City.----- March 21,1938 VICTIM WAS WELL LIKED-The victim ,the son of Mr.and Mrs.Lee DALTON,prominent Carter couple,was employed at the Simpson grocery store there.He was regarded as one of the most outstanding and popular young men of the community.Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Tuesday at the Baptist church in Carter.Burial will be made in the Carter Cemetery.Other than his parents,young DALTON is survived by two sisters,Misses Madelyn and Alieen.and three brothers,Cecil,Glenn,and Loyce .All except the latter whose home is in Shamrock,Texas,reside at Carter.----Last rites for LeRoy DALTON,victim of an automobile crash late Sunday night ,were held at 2:30 today at the Baptist church in Carter.The youth,son of Mr.and Mrs. Lee DALTON of Carter,was 26 years of age.22 March 1938 T-He was killed almost instantly when the car in which he was riding struck a bridge abutment on Highway 34,one-half mile north of 41 Highway.Mr.DALTON was employed at the Simpson Grocery store in C arter.Surviving are his parents,Mr.and Mrs.Lee DALTON,two sisters Misses Madelyn and Aileen,and three brothers,Cecil and Glenn,all of Carter and Loyce DALTON,of Shamrock,Texas.
