This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Jerri Hodde ==================================================================== **************************************************************************** ********** DALTON,Clessie Otis born May 31,1896 -married December 24,1924 -died June 9,1945 Canute Cemetery Washita County,Oklahoma-- Otis DALTON,49,a veteran of World War One in service with the U.S.Navy and who lived one mile south and one -half miles west of Burns Flat,died Sturday morning June 9,1945,about 7 o'clock as a result of a self inflicted bullet wound in the left temple administered by a .22 caliber rifle.He had gone to the barn and had milked but when he did not return for an overlong time,a member of the household went in search of him and found his body.DALTON had ,sold a previously owned farm and had gone to California but had returned to the Canute community and had only recently purchased the farm home on which the fatality occured.He was married and had two children,a son Wesley 13 and a daughter Frances,17 with along with the widow survive.His mother Mrs.G.J.DALTON who lives in Canute,and sister Mrs.Joe CHERBANKS,Canute,a patient in a local hospital,also survive.He was a member of American Legion Post No.181.Funeral arrangements which will be in charge of the MARTIN-HULLUM funeral home are pending awaiting word from other relatives.------June 12,1945 TU-Clessie Oatis DALTON,49,former farmer of near Burns Flat,died at 7 o'clock Saturday morning,June 9,1945.He was born May 31,1896 at Scottsville,Kentucky and was married December 24,1924 at Elk City to Grace McCollum who along with Frances Genevie,a daughter and Westly Allen,a son,survive him at the home address.He came to Washita County in 1921 with the exception of a short journey in California recently,had resided there since.SON OF Isaiah C.DALTON & Geneva J.(LOYD)DALTON.--He was a member of the Canute Methodist church and of American Legion Post 181,Elk City,having been a member of the United States armed forces from 1914 to 1921.Other survivors include brothers Jesse C.Anton,Texas,Orba E.,Missouri and Garland of Haines City,Florida but now on duty with the Merchant Marine.Sisters surviving are Mrs. Lillie Mae LIVINGOOD,Bakersville,California,Mrs.Mary CHERVENKA,Carpenter,Oklahoma,Mrs.Berta WHITTENBURG,Granview,Washington and Mrs.Gladys SMITH,Lindsey,California.And his mother Mrs. G.J.DALTON,Canute.Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.June 12,1945,fromthe auditorium of the Canute school,Reverend HAWKINS,Snyder,officiating with interment in Canute Cemetery.MARTIN-HULLUM,funeral directors in charge.The American Legion will have charge of the services at the graveside.
