M. Dudley died at his home out northeast of Carter last Sunday afternoon, of cancer. He had been a sufferer from the disease for a long time. The remains were laid to rest in the Carter Cemetery, Monday, by the W. O. W.'s, the deceased having been a member of that fraternal order over at Sayre. (28 Nov 1920, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Jas. M. Dudley, residing seven miles southeast of this city, died on Sunday afternoon last after an illness of several years. The funeral services were held from his home late Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Z. E. Twitty pastor of the Baptist church of this city. Interment was at the Carter cemetery, and the services at the grave were in charge of the Sayre and Carter W.O.W., of which order Mr. Dudly (sic) had been a member for several years. The services were largely attended by friends and neighbors, by whom deceased was very highly esteemed, and their heartfelt sympathy goes to the bereaved family. James Monroe Dudley was born at Springfield, Missouri, March 8, 1856. When eight years old his parents moved to Texas, where he resided until coming to Oklahoma. At an early age Mr. Dudley united with the Baptist church at Valley View, Texas, and at the age of 29 was married to Miss Ella Burks at Valley View. To this union were born four children, three of whom are still living, and also is his wife.
