Mr. Dyer had gone out to the barn and taken the poison without giving any of the family any hint as to what he was aiming to do. The discovery of his tragic death was not made till after his son, Charley, had come in from the gin where he was working, for his supper. Mrs. Dyer informed Charley that Mr. Dyer had gone in- to the barn some time before and had not returned and it was suppos- ed he had come up town but when Charley investigated he found his father death. Further investigation when help was summoned revealed the sad and tragic cause of his death. Mr. Dyer was generally known here and throughout this part of the country as "Uncle Dick" and he had been a citizen of this part of the country for about 26 years. He was friendly to everyone that he met and everyone here knew him and he was liked by all. His many friends as well as his relatives were greatly shocked and grieved to learn of his sudden and tragic death. He leaves a wife and several children, one of whom, Charley, he was living with at the time of his death. The remains were laid to rest in the Carter cemetery on Friday af- ternoon, a large crowd of friends and relatives being present to pay their last respects to the memory of their friend. Mrs. Dyer and the children and their families have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in the sad death of their husband and father. Elk City (taken from the Carter Express) 2 Oct 1924
