England, one of Carter's leading citizens, died at his home here early Sunday morning, of palagra, after being confined to his bed for several weeks. The disease had probably been working on him though for several years he had been a sufferer with stomach trouble for a long time, but did not get serious until a few weeks ago. Mr. England had been a resident of Carter for more than five years, having been engaged in the drug business during most of his time, but had also run a grocery store in connection with other business associates. In his death Carter loses one of its most highly respected and influential citizens, his family loses a loving and provident husband and father. The people of the town and surrounding country deeply sympathize with the grief-stricken family. The funeral service was held at the home of the deceased, Rev. Hayes having charge of same, after which the body was laid to rest in the Carter cemetery by the members of the Masonic Order. A very large crowd of friends and relatives were present to pay their last respects to the memory of a useful and beneficial life before the body was laid in the tomb. The deceased left a wife and five children, the two older being married. CARD OF THANKS. We wish to thank our many friends and relatives for their kind services rendered during the illness and death of our beloved husband, father and brother, and especially Dr. Shadid who was so attentive with his services. Mrs. W. B. England and family. Mrs. Lena Yandell. Mrs. Bess Finch. J. J. England and family. Mrs. D. C. Osborn and family. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
