FRANKFORD, ANTHONY
(18 Jul 1929, Cheyenne Star, Cheyenne, Roger Mills Co, OK):
Anthony Frankford, a pioneer settler of Roger Mills County, died July 11
at his home at Dempsey in the southwest part of the county, at the
advanced age of 85 years.
This was a remarkable man in his life, in that he pioneered in two states,
spent four years in army life during the Civil War, then after an active
life till past middle age, he emigrated to Oklahoma and settled on a raw
prarie (sic) claim and improved it by his own labor, working at farming,
storekeeping and freighting till about 75 years of age.  His health then
gave way and for the last 8 years he had been an invalid, cared by his
sons and especially by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Hattie Frankford.
Mr. Frankford was a life member of the G.A.R., paid up in the Browning
Ill. Post No. 530 where he had lived and where he had reared his family of
3 sons and 1 daughter.
His wife, formerly Miss Louisa Fowler, preceeded him in death, Dec. 9,
1893.  Two sons, J. M. and W. M., live at Dempsey, Thomas S. in Oklahoma
City and the daughter, Mrs. Anna Coloma, in Burlington, Ia.  An older
brother, Sam Frankford, lives at Stahl, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Frew in
Cuba, N.Y.  Nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive him.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. F. Lancaster who had known Mr.
Frankford since his boyhood.
Members of the American Legion Posts from Elk City and Sayre, Senator
Alvin Moore of Cheyenne and several ex-soldier boys around the community
including two veterans of the Spanish War were present and took part in
the funeral, firing a salute over the grave.  A large concourse of people
were present at the interment.
