All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ ACKLEY, MARTHA ELLEN (19 July 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham County, OK): Mrs. Ella Ackley was born at Kokomo, Ind., January 9, 1862, died at Elk City Oklahoma, July 10, 1928. Besides her husband, P. P. Ackley, she leaves to mourn her loss, a daughter, Mrs. C. D. Horstman, of Elk City, one brother, John E. Foreman and family of Windfall, Ind., a half sister, Mrs. Ida Hofard and family of Selina, Ohio, who were able to be present at the bedside and funeral of their sister; also a number of nieces and nephews of a deceased brother, Dr. W. H. Foreman of Indianapolis, Ind., and sister, Anna M. Roe of Kokomo, Ind., none of whom were able to be present, except one niece, Mrs. Addie Miller of Nowata, Okla. Mrs. Ackley was the daughter of Walter and Rebecca E. Foreman. At twelve years of age she was left an orphan and removed with a sister and family to Golden City, Mo., where she resided for several years. It was here she met P. P. Ackley, who, 10 years later, became her husband. At an early age, she began teaching in the public schools, having received her first teacher's license at Greenfield, Mo., at the age of seventeen. She continued teaching for several years until her marriage to P. P. Ackley, Mary 5, 1886, at the home of Mr. Ackley's sister at Golden City, MO. They then took up the life of pioneers at Harrold, Texas, residing there ten years. From there they moved to the Panhandle Country. From there they removed to Texola, Okla, where they were in business for about five years. From there they went to New Mexico residing there nine years. They then went back to their farm in Wheeler county, Texas, living there one year, when she had a stroke of paralysis from which she never fully recovered. They then removed to Elk City, where they have resided up to the time of her death. She was laid to rest at Texola, Oklahoma, their former home. Martha Ellen Ackley was born in Indiana, Jan. 9, 1862, died at Elk City July 10, 1928, age 66 years, 6 months and 1 day. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church July 12 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Webb officiating. Interment in Texola cemetery. Gentry-Killough in charge.
