William as he was called had been head clerk in W. E. Allen's Grocery store for a number of years and was well known to our people, always greeting the customers and friends with a cheerful word and happy smile. He possessed many sterling virtues and all knew of his devotion to his wife and little boys and to his aged parents. Many times had he worked all day in the store and assisted the invalid wife in the house work on his return home. No doubt the loving care he has bestowed upon her has been the means of her life being prolonged. When told he might not recover, he talked optomistic(sic) and said he was sure he would get up again, yet later told his wife he was not afraid to go, bidding her a very affectionate goodbye. A large number of friends, followed the remains of this loved husband, father and friend to the Fairlawn cemetery, Sunday afternoon, where funeral services were held, Grubitz & Son being in charge. Flowers covered the beautiful casket, being sent from the Yeoman Lodge of which he was a member, the M. E. Church South, M. E. Aid Society and friends. The pall bearers were Messrs Walter Thomas, H. O. Hiren, Lee Parker, Geo. Wann, Jno. Forsyth and Dr. Geo. E. Elliott. At the grave Rev. M. T. Allen led the earnest prayer. Rev. Posey read the 139th Psalm, after which both ministers made a few remarks. James William Adair, Jr., was born in Mulberry, Tenn., October 9th, 1882, died in Elk City, Okla., October 12th, 1918, aged 36 years and 3 days. He left Fayetteville, Tenn., in 1900, coming as far west as Weatherford, and assisted his father in a store at Claude. He came to Elk City in 1903 assisting at the telephone switchboard, his father being one of the members of the telephone company. He was married to Miss Maggie Verheins, Weatherford, June 16, 1906. Two sons, Ralph, aged ten and Allen, aged seven, who with the wife, aged parents, three sisters, Mrs. Lena Flournoy of Chireno, Texas, Ethel and Lillian Adair of Elk City and one brother, Weston Adair, of Depew, Okla., are left to mourn his departure. May the sorrowing ones be comforted by the Great Physician.
