(2 June 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Funeral Services Are Held Here Today for James P. Addis. Funeral services for James P. Addis, 85, father of Roy Addis, of this city, and a resident of this section for 25 years, were held here at 3 o'clock today at the Seven Day Adventist Church, with Rev. N. R. Hickman, pastor reading the final rites. Mr. Addis was born in Kokomo, Ind. He was one child in a family of five. He was taken by some friends, upon the death of his father and by frequent misfortunate was forced to being caring for himself at an early age. He was employed at a saloon when quite young and was sold by the saloonkeeper to a doctor for $25.00, members of the family say. Mr. Addis enlisted in the Civil army at Astoria, Ill, when 17 years of age and was a member of the 85th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company H, for over three years. Following the war, Mr. Addis learned that his mother was living and spent some time in finding her. He was married in 1866 at Delph, Indiana. He lived with his family in Decatur county in northwestern Kansas for a number of years. Mr. Addis made his home here with his son, Roy Addis, and Mrs. Addis, since the death of his wife 17 years ago. The only relatives surviving Mr. Addis are his seven children, four sons and three daughters. They are: Mrs. Minnie Adams, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs.Rhonda Smith of Prim, Ark.; Della McAdams, of Quitman, New Mexico; and Lyle Addis, who lives near Sayre. Ben Addis of Texola, ? Addis of Delta Colo.; and Roy Addis of this city. Interment was made in East Fairlawn Cemetery. Killough-Hullum, funeraldirectors, were in charge of arrangements.
