All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ ALDRIDGE, WILLIAM (20 March 1919, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham, OK): DEATH OF WILLIAM ALDRIDGE. William Aldridge, a former citizen of Elk City, died at Ada, Okla., at the home of his daughter Mrs. Nellie Miller, on March 9th, 1919, at 10:30 a.m. He had suffered for two years with dropsy but bore his sufferings so bravely. Deceased was born in Gallatin, Tenn., Dec. 15. (no year given). When a young man he was married to Miss Sophia Pearson and to this union were born four children, John Aldridge, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Mary Harness, Sweetwater, Okla.; Fred Aldridge, who died in Kansas City ten years ago; and Mrs. Minnie Harper of Elk City, Okla. The mother died when the children were small. At that time they lived in Illinois. Later, Mr. Aldridge and family moved to Missouri, and on July 31st 1893, he was married to Mrs. Mary E. Wilcoxson who still survives him. She had one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Miller, with whom they made their home since last June. He loved this step daughter as dearly as his own and he was loved by her as dearly as an own father. Funeral services were held at the home on Stockton Avenue at Ada, conducted by Rev. C. V. Dunn, of the First Christian church of that place, and interment was made in Rosedale cemetery. Many beautiful flowers were sent by friends and loved ones. His son, John, was the only child to reach his bedside before the end came. Deceased has three brothers and two sisters living near Whitehall, Ill. Mr. Aldridge had many friends here who will regret to learn of his death. He was a good man, a kind neighbor and true friend. He became a member of the First Christian church about twenty years ago, and ever lived a consistent christian. The deepest sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones.
