After the tragic death of his father in 1902 he spent a year in Washington and Oregon returning home in 1904. He moved to his claim in Beaver county last March where he died with typhoid fever, October 29, 1906. Last fall while working on the section at Merritt, he hurt his back and has suffered from it all the time since not being able to work over half the time. Not long before he was taken down, one evening at a meeting a lady friend said to him, "Loyd, don't you think it is time for you to make the good start?" He replied that he had at time been a charlatan and intended to start again and live right hereafter. His mother, asked him if he was ready to do. Yes, he answered. A look of wonder and amazement then came over his face and his mother asked him what he saw. Heaven he replied, his face then was illimined (sic) by a smile as if he had met some loved one and so passed away. A baptist minister, Rev. Sutton, formally of Iowa, conducted the funeral services after which he was laid away in a cemetery seven miles north of Rice, Oklahoma.
