(14 Feb 1912, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): An old and highly respected citizen of Elk City passed away Friday morning after an illness of three weeks duration. He was taken with a stroke of paralysis while visiting his son, W. Y. in Carter, later he recovered sufficiently to be brought home, and was at the home of his daughter Mrs. F. E. Nichols until his death. Mr. Allen was born in Marietta, Ga. in 1845, enlisted in the Confederate army under General Robt. E. Lee, and served to the close of the war. He leaves a wife and eight children, six of whom were present at the funeral: Mrs. F. E. Nichols and Sam Allen of this city, W. Y. of Carter, David of San Angelo, Tex., R. S. of Mountain View, Okla., Walter of Roosevelt, Okla. The funeral was held at the home Sunday with the beautiful services of the Masonic Lodge of which he had been a member for 35 years. Burial at the city cemetery. (16 Feb 1912, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. W. J. Allen, who was striken (sic) with paralysis at Carter some time ago, died at Elk City Friday at noon. His remains were laid to rest in the Elk City cemetery Sunday afternoon by the Masonic order, of which Mr. Allen was a member. Bob Allen of Mountain Park, Okla., Buck Allen of Roosevelt, Okla., Dave Allen of San Angelo, Texas, and W. Y. Allen of Carter, all sons of the old man, were present at the funeral ceremonies Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W. Y. Allen of Carter were up Saturday to be in time for the ceremonial preparation.
