She would have been fourteen years of age the last of this month. Gladys was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Allred. She was an exceptionally bright girl with a gentle disposition which won for her many friends who feel keenly their loss in her death. Gladys was stricken very suddenly with appendicitis at her home a few days before her death, and was rushed to the hospital where attending physicians operated as soon as possible. It developed that her appendix was in bad condition. She suffered much in spite of the rest medicine given her by the doctors. I heard of her sickness the day before her death and visited her and found her under the very efficient care of Mrs. Hardeman. I spent some 20 or 30 minutes in her room and her condition at that time seemed serious to me. On the following morning I called the hospital over the phone to ask how she was. And they told me she had just passed away about ten minutes before. At that time I didn't know of her relation to any of our members, but later learned she was a niece of Mrs. Pearl Winn, also related to the Wilson family. By request the funeral was conducted at the Church of Christ by the writer in the presence of a host of friends and many sorrowing relatives. The body was prepared for burial by Geo. Grubitz & Son with Eugene Grubitz in charge. Two songs were sung, then a brief prayer was offered, followed by a short talk. We then sang another song while the friends first and then bereaved ones last passed in solemn procession to view her mortal remains for the last time before consigning her body to the silent city of the dead to await the final resurrection of the countless dead. We sang by request of the family "As the life of a flower." We wish to extend our sincere sympathy to all the broken hearted survivers (sic). Look to Christ and his God as the healer with His gospel balm for all of our wounded spirits. "Be ye faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life." In loving remembrance. J. A. Cullum, Minister. (10 Feb 1922, Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Gladys Allred, daughter of Mrs. Robert A. Allred, died Friday morning, February 3, at 10 o'clock, at the Musick Hospital, after undergoing a serious operation for appendicitis. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. J. A. Cullum. A special song, "The Life of a Flower," was sung by the church. Gladys was an intelligent girl, loved by all who knew her, and will be missed very much in her home and among her friends.
