BAKER. George W. Baker, living on West Seventh street, died last Thursday, November 28th. His body was taken to Erick for burial, as he formerly lived at that place. He was 67 years of age and had lived in Elk City about eight months. He had two sons in the army, one at Camp Greenleaf, Ga., and one at Camp John Wise, San Antonio. (12 Dec 1918, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): George W. Baker was born July 8th 1852, in Georgia, died November 28th at Elk City, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held at Erick, November 29th, services being conducted by Rev. Wilson. Deceased was converted in the year 1904 at Erick and was baptized by Rev. Wilson. At the time of his death he was a member of the Baptist church of Elk City, having moved to this place from Hartford, Ark., in February 1918. Mr. Baker was married in 1871 to Miss Jane George. To this union was born five children, Ellen Lawrie, Alexandria, Alabama; Jasper Baker, Mountain View, Oklahoma; Ludie Brannon, Elk City, Oklahoma, Ara Carter, Midlothan, Texas; Sarah, died at six months old. After his wife's death he was married to Miss Sarah J. Allen in August 1880 and to them were born nine children, Mrs. Alice Dean, Alexandria, Alabama; Rufus Baker, Forgan, Okla.; Joseph Baker of Camp Greenleaf, Chickamauga, Ga., Edward Baker of Little Rock, Ark., Colbert Baker of Camp John Wise, San Antonio; Jeffie F. Baker, stationed at Fort Ruger, Honolulu, Hawaii. Three children have died, Jimmie Rosa and Johnnie. The deceased was a loving father and husband and his fatherly counsel to his children was always in harmony with those things that make for noble manhood and womanhood, and he has left them an inheritance of Christian graces that shall ever be an inspiration to them.
