All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BALES, GORDON EUGENE (11 Jan 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Little Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Bales was born in Elk City, Oklahoma, October 17, 1921, and died January 7, 1923. Funeral services were held at the C. M. Briggs home on Monday afternoon, January 8th at three o'clock p.m. Many beautiful flowers were sent to the bereaved ones as a token of sympathy and love. The body was laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery with Grubitz & Son in charge. The services at the home was conducted by Mrs. W. O. Hock Christian Science practitioner, now of Blackwell, but formerly of Elk City. Mesdames Francis Reed, Baber and Gibbs sang "Abide With Me" and "That Beautiful Land." Little Gordon was sick several months last summer and his life despaired of then but had recovered and was looking so well when taken sick with flu and pneumonia. The picture of little Gordon used in the Christmas edition of the New Democrat was taken especially for that issue, and many remarked then of his restored health, judging from the picture. (Picture reprinted) He was the pet of the parents, his older brother, the grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Briggs, and other relatives and friends.
