Dan Pulver officiating. Interrment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. Bertha Lee Taylor Bates was born August 27, 1918 in Hammon to E.T. and Leona Long Taylor and died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at the age of 83. Bertha attended school at Pie Flat and after graduating she attended college at Southwestern State College in Weatherford. Bertha was married to Charles T. Bates of Merritt Community on April 12, 1941 at Woodward. They moved to Columbus, Georgia where he entered the service. Her husband's business took them to Mexico, Germany, England, Puerto Rico, and Canada besides several places in the United States. Bertha Lee has been a homemaker and long time member of the Church of Christ and Presbyterian Churches. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles and two brothers, Deever Taylor and E.T. Taylor. Survivors include one sister, Stella McGaugh of Sun Ray, Texas, one sister-in-law, Modell Taylor of Clinton, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
