Obit of Edton Bates, Beckham Co. OK EDTON BATES Posted by Joan (DeFore) Garvey for Elk City Library Elk City Paper, Beckham Co., OK EDTON BATES Graveside services for Ed BATES were today (Friday) at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. W. G. OVERTON and the Rev. Geary SCOTT officiating. Edton BATES was born Jan. 7, 1906 in Anderson, Tex., the son of Dick and Donnie (WILLIAMS) BATES and died March 26 in his Elk City home at the age of 81. Mr. BATES had lived in Elk City since 1946. He married Tempy HALL on Nov. 21, 1934 in Plantersville, Tex., and she preceded him in death on July 2, 1982. Mr. BATES was the caretaker of the Presbyterian Church for 30 years. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mr. BATES is survived by a step-daughter, Rossie LEE, of Ft. Worth, Tex., and by one step granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister Rebecca LAWRENCE. Services were under the direction of Savage Funeral Home.
