All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BAUMWART, ARTHUR CHRISTIAN (14 Mar 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Baumwart Funeral will be Tomorrow Morning at 10 O'Clock. Arthur Christian Baumwart, 70, old settler of the Canute community, died at his home on his old homestead this morning at 5 o'clock following an illness of three weeks. Mr. Baumwart had been suffering for some time and had spent two weeks recently in a hospital here. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock in the Protestant church at Canute, it was announced by members of the family today. Dr. J. A. Jester, of this city, close friend of Mr. Baumwart for many years, will conduct the services, according to the announcement. Mr. Baumwart was born Jan. 17, 1860, in Iowa. He lived with his family until early manhood, marrying Miss Catherine Duff at Decorah, Iowa in 1885. Mr. and Mrs. Baumwart moved to Oklahoma in 1900, settling on the tract of land near Canute. First Wife Dies. Mrs. Baumwart died May 7, 1909. Mr. Baumwart's second marriage was to Mrs. L. Brewer, of this city, in 1928 at Amarillo, Tex. The old settler had innumerable friends in the Canute community, and was well known all over this section of the country. He has been interested in agricultural movements and devoted his life to the duties of farming. Mr. Baumwart is survived by his wife, Mrs. Baumwart, a son, L. J. Baumwart of Canute, and three brothers. The brothers are: Berlin Baumwart of Tipton, Iowa. (only one named) One daughter, Mrs. Elvie Smallwood died in 1923. Her two children, Orvie and Mable, are living. Berlin Baumwart and Mr. White will attend their brother's funeral. Grant Baumwart was unable to come due to the illness of his wife. Interment will be made in the Canute cemetery with Gentry-Killough, funeral directors, in charge of arrangements.
