(21 Oct 1908, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Gideon W. Baumwart was born at Osban (? smeared), Iowa, August 18, 1862. April 27, 1893 he was united in marriage to Dora E. Houghland. In 1901 he moved to Oklahoma, taking up a claim. He built up a nice comfortable home for his family. Two years ago he moved to Elk City to educate his children. His health has been failing for the past two years. He was so patient and uncomplaining that his family did not realize how bad off he really was, until three weeks ago, when fever set in, and he departed this life Wednesday morning, Oct. 14, 1908, age 48 years, 1 month and 26 days. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss; Bernice, age 14, Lyle, age 12, Glen age 10, and Luverne age 5 years. Gideon Baumwart was the most honest and unselfish mortal it has ever been our lot to know. He believed in his maker and his Christianity consisted in deeds not words. Funeral services were conducted at the home Oct. 15, at three o'clock by Rev. W. A. Randle after which the remains were laid to rest in the City Cemetery. TO OUR FRIENDS. We desire to return thanks to our kind friends who remembered us in our time of sudden and terrible affliction in the death of our husband and father. Your kind acts will be a cherished memory in our hearts. Mrs. G. W. Baumwart and family.
