MONROE BECK. After many months of illness from tuberculosis, Mrs. Monroe Beck died at her home east of Elk City, last Friday morning, September 5th, 1919, aged 51 years, 5 months and 12 days. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at four o'clock p.m., conducted by Eld. Jernagan, after which interment was made at the Fairlawn cemetery. A large number of friends and relatives attended the last sad rites. Josie Brice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Brice, was born in Georgia and with her parents moved to Arkansas when a young girl. On the 26th day of August 1888, she was married to Monroe Beck in Logan County, Ark. To this union were born six children, who mourn the loss of a loving and devoted mother: Mrs. Ida Hall, Victor Beck, Mrs. Oda Harper, Hazel, Otis and Arlie Beck, the youngest being seven years of age. Mrs. Beck was a member of the Christian church and was a consecrated christian woman. A year and a half ago she commenced to fail in health and in that time was ever patient, never complaining, and the last week, when not able to talk much, she was ever greeted by her devoted companion with a smile. She called him to her bedside the day before she passed away and told him her wishes about her funeral and what she wanted done. Mrs. Beck will be sadly missed by her relatives and friends. She was a true friend and everyone who knew her loved and respected her for her sweet lovely character. All speak with one accord and say she was a good woman. No higher tribute could be given. Help and cheer came from the bed of pain where her faith triumphed, and sweet memories of the loved one will ever remain. May God comfort and bless those who are left. The News Democrat joins with a large circle of friends.
