DIES AT AGE OF 105. Townley H. Bellamy, known as Grandpa Bellamy died last Saturday at 3 a.m. at the great age of 105 years. Some years ago, Grandpa gave his age a few years younger than this would make him, but on making a trip three years ago to Ohio he learned from an aunt who was over 100 years old and found from record that he was older than he had thought, making him 105 years old the 19th of February, having been born in 1818 in West Virginia. His wife died nineteen years ago, Grandpa lived most of the time at the home of his son R. S. Bellamy, where he was given every attention. His mind was usually bright and up to the time of his death was a most wonderful conversationalist. When a young man he taught school and was well educated for one of that time. We saw some of his writing after he was one hundred years old, that was written in very good hand and every word very plain. He was a good christian man and his thots (sic) have been of his Savior and the ones who have gone before. He told us many times he was anxious to go on to all his friends of younger days, and so many of his loved ones had gone. He was the father of seven children, the late Berry Bellamy of Elk City, being one of his sons. Only three children survive, William Bellamy of Fleming County, Kentucky, Mrs. Martha Shamlin of Ohio, and R. S. Bellamy of Elk City. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday evening at four o'clock, conducted by his friend, Rev. Stanka, of the Church of God. Interment was in charge of Robinson and Son who believe that Grandpa was the oldest person in Oklahoma at the time of his death.
