R. Brooks, of northwest of Elk City, and a former resident of this city, died at Enid, Aug. 31, according to word received here. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks attended the funeral and have returned to their home. Miss Belt was born at Hobart and at the time of her death was 20 years of age. Concerning her death, the Oklahoma Hornet, published at Waukomis, said in part: "Miss Belt leaves to mourn her going, her father and mother, one brother, Loren J. of the home and the following uncles and aunts: Orl F. Belt, Lees Summit, Missouri; Russ E. Belt, Nevada, Missouri; Elba R. Belt, South Mound, Kansas; Mrs. Margaret Smiley, Clinton, Missouri; Mrs. J. A. Hopper, Kansas City, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Brooks, Elk City, Oklahoma. The latter three were present at the services. "She gave her heart to God at the age of six, uniting with the Methodist Episcopal church of Elk City, transferring to the Methodist Episcopal church of Waukomis when with her parents and brother she moved to this community in July of 1924. "In the five years of her residence here she made for herself a secure place in the hearts of the people, and the whole community is deeply saddened at her going. "The church has lost a sweet singer whose song was always eagerly welcomed; the Sunday School has lost a beloved teacher; the Epworth League has lost its president; the young people have lost their leader, but God alone knows what the father and mother have lost. "A sweet and patient sufferer, a luminous, undaunted, unflinching courage, a beautiful faith, and a triumphant Christian experience, leave the fragrance of her memory in rich benediction upon all. She has gone to her coronation. "Funeral services were conducted Monday from the Methodist church, Waukomis, Rev. I. E. Bula officiating. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette composed of Mrs. Roy Jewell, Mrs. Chas. Pitman, Prof. R. E. Jones of Enid, and Dean Bula. "Interment was made in the Waukomis cemetery. (Jefferson County, Oklahoma) The Brown Funeral Home was in charge.
