All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BIRD, BEN P. (4 Dec 1924, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Ben R. (sic) Bird, formerly of Canute, died in the Baptist Sanitarium, Waco, Texas, after four weeks illness. The fatal illness started four weeks ago at his home in Eastland, Texas, and the attending family physician urged for more rest and quietness, but as the days passed by his condition grew more serious, so Monday of last week he consented to be taken to the Baptist Sanitarium in Waco, Texas. The attending physician diagnosed the trouble as leakage of the heart and high blood pressure. The body was prepared at Compton Funeral Home for shipment and returned to the home of his mother at Canute, Okla., where services were held last Saturday morning, with C. H. Lemmex, pastor of the Christian Church of Elk City, officiating. A large crowd was in attendance. Interment was made in Fairlawn cemetery of Elk City. Ben P. Bird was born in Calmar, Iowa, June 27, 1887 and lived there until September 22, 1899, at which time he came to Oklahoma while he lived with his parents. On September 3rd, 1913, he was married to Miss Jessie Brown, of Oklahoma City, moving to Eastland, Texas, where he took ill. He died November 26, 1924, aged 37 years, 4 months and 29 days, leaving to mourn his loss his wife, Mrs. Jessie Bird, mother, Mrs. Chas. Bird of Canute, Okla., sister, Mrs. O. F. Tesmar, of Elk City, three brothers, William F., of Hennessey, Okla., Lewis A. of Wichita, Kans., Edward C., of Enid, Okla. All were present in the last hours of sadness. The father, Charles Bird, preceded him in death on July 8th, 1912. (4 Dec 1924, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok): Mrs. J. T. Peyton of Oklahoma City visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Tesmar last week. She came to attend the funeral of her uncle, Ben Bird.
