All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BONDS, ARNOLD BONDS, CLAUD (28 Nov 1918, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF ARNOLD AND CLAUD BONDS. The bodies of Arnold and Claud Bonds, sons of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Bonds arrived in Elk City Sunday. Both died at Elkhart, Kansas, last Thursday, Claud dying at 8:30 a.m., and Arnold at 11:00 p.m., of influenza. When word was received of their serious illness the mother and Mrs. Arnold Bonds left immediately but both men had passed away before their arrival. Mrs. Arnold Bonds had been here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Lauderdale, who had been quite sick. She and the mother returned with the bodies. Several other members of the Bonds family are seriously ill at Elkhart. The bodies were held at the Grubitz Undertaking Parlors until Tuesday. Funeral services of the two brothers were held at Berlin, Okla., on Tuesday afternoon and interment made at the cemetery where last February another son was buried. A few years ago another grown son was interred in this cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Bonds have lost six children and have six living. Arnold and Claud were working for the Government at the depot at Elkhart. Both were born in Montague County, Texas. Arnold on August 11th, 1896 and was twenty-two years of age, Claud on August 9th 1898, being twenty years of age. Arnold married Reta Lauderdale on December 23rd, 1916, and they have one child, Imogene, who was born September 25th, 1917. During the trouble on the border, Arnold enlisted June 30th 1916 at Horton, Kansas, being 1st class private of Co. B, First Regiment of Kansas Infantry. He was given an honorable discharge October 13th 1916, and his discharge reads: "Excellent character, service, honest and faithful."
