Mrs. Bessie Bell Bowman was born March 19, 1904, and died July 31, 1927. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday, August 2, at 4 p.m., Rev. Elliott officiating. Interment at Fairlawn Cemetery, Gentry-Killough in charge. (4 Aug 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Bessie Ross Bowman was born near Carpenter, Oklahoma, March 19, 1904, and died July 31, 1927, in Elk City; age 23 years, 4 months and 12 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ross, who recently moved to this city from Carpenter, and reside at the home on West Avenue A. In 1922 she was converted and was a member of the First Baptist Church of this city. She was married to Noel Bowman July 25, 1925, and they came to Elk City and have made this place their home since that time. Mrs. Bowman has been in ill health for the past few months, and on the day of the second anniversary of her marriage she underwent an operation, from which she did not recover, taking leave of this life July 31. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon, August 2, by her former pastor, Rev. S. S. Elliott. Burial in the Fairlawn Cemetery. (11 Aug 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Bessie Bell Bowman, wife of Noel Bowman and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Ross, was born eleven miles northeast of Elk City on March 19, 1904, and passed away July 31, 1927, at the age of 23 years, 4 months and 12 days. She was married to Noel Bowman July 25, 1925. They made their home in Oklahoma City for a time, then came back to Elk City. She has been in poor health for eight months and underwent an operation July 25 from which she was too weak to recover. Bessie finished the grade school at Carpenter, and attended high school at Stafford. She made friends wherever she went. She always met them with a smile. To know her was to love her. She was converted about five years ago and united with the Baptist Church and was faithful to the end. Her Bible was her constant companion. She loved to read of God's great love for His children, and of the beautiful life beyond. She asked her mother not to weep for her; that all was well and she was prepared to meet her savior. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, August 2, with Rev. S. S. Elliott in charge. The pall bearers were the employees at the Chevrolet garage. Those from out of town who came for the funeral were Rev. Perry McArthur of Granite, Mrs. Florence Barber and Willie Richey of Clinton, Oliver -?ay and two children, Clara Curtus (sic) and Edith Green of Clinton, Iva McFarland and daughter, Mrs. W. M. Barber and two sons, all of Wichita, Kansas. Bessie leaves to mourn her going the young husband, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Ross, three brothers, Charley, Jackie and Elra, and five sisters, her twin sister, Mrs. Jessie Reeves, Mrs. Hollie Bowman, Mrs. Tom Dodson of Clinton, Elva Ross and Mrs. Rennie Guthrie, who preceded her in death. She was laid to rest in Fairlawn Cemetery.
