Bowman passed away Tuesday. Death was due to valvular disease of the heart caused by rheumatism. She has been a long sufferer, and death came as a relief. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Royse, old settlers in this county. All the old settlers well know the Royse family and Mrs. Bowman. Deceased was about 26 years old. Many friends will mourn her demise. All sympathize with the husband, parents, sisters and brothers. Death was but a shadow between the spirit and clay. (28 Feb 1906, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Frances Royse Bowman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Royse and wife of D. T. Bowman, died at the home of her brother, Lee Royse, seven miles southwest of Elk City, February 20, 1906, after a painful illness of several months. Death came as a welcome release from the wasting pains of rheumatism. Mrs. Bowman was well known by a host of friends who both admired and loved her for her many qualities both of mind and heart. She was a teacher in the first term of the public school in this city where she fulfilled the expectations of her friends. She was the first of ten children of these parents who grew to man and womanhood, to depart this life. On this account, and the devotion and attachment with which the family tie was strengthened, made the bereavement one of marked characteristics. The funeral was from the home of her brother where she died, the brothers and sisters of the deceased acting as pall bearers. Songs, scripture reading, a prayer and short address by Rev. T. D. Penn formed the simple funeral service, after which a large procession of friends attended the bereaved family to the city cemetery, where the body of Frances Royse Bowman was tenderly laid to rest by loving hands, where her flesh shall rest until the Lord calls it to the life again.
