(23 Sep 1921, Friday, SouthWest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. G. A. Bowman died Sunday morning at 4 o'clock in the El Reno sanitarium. The remains were shipped to Canute and funeral services were held at the Thompson Cemetery northwest of Canute. (6 Oct 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY. Mrs. G. A. Bowman. Mary E. Wilson was born in Livingston county, Mo., July 29, 1959 (sic). She was married to G. A. Bowman April 29, 1875. After an extended illness she died in the Sanitarium at El Reno, Okla. Mrs. Bowman was sixty-two years, one month and twenty days old when she died. She leaves to mourn her departure from this life, G. A. Bowman, her loving companion: five daughters, Mrs. Maggie Curtis and Mrs. Nora Owens, both of Canute, Okla.; Mrs. Dora Hastings of Rhea, Okla., Mrs. Maud Evans and Miss Ethel Bowman of Elk City, Okla.; four brothers and one sister, all of Missouri; eight grand children and three great grandchildren and a host of friends. Mrs. Bowman obeyed the gospel at an early age and lived a Godly life in the Church of Christ, was a faithful and loving wife and mother, and like Priscilla of the Apostolic days, she was a great worker for the church, ever administering to the necessities of others, and teaching the Word in a quiet and private way. Her whole life was centered on helping to spread the Gospel that others might be able to enjoy the sweet rest and peace she is now enjoying. She was always cheerful and scattered love and sunshine wherever she was. She was buried in the Thompson cemetery near Pixlee school house. A large crowd attended the funeral among whom were her three brothers and a sister from Missouri. Elder A. J. Jernigan conducted the funeral services. He made a forceful talk to the living in which he showed the great necessity of living a Christian life here, and how sweet is the sleep of one who dies in the Lord. The Church of Christ with which Mrs. Bowman was in full fellowship will miss her deeply, but we will "sorrow not, even as others which have no hope." Rendered by her loving sister in Christ. Mrs. Ed Atchley.
