Gladys Leslie Branham was born in Atlanta, Missouri, 16 years ago, moved with her mother's family to Alva, Oklahoma about two years ago where they have since made their home. Miss Gladys had been here for several months visiting her sister, Mrs. F. H. Carpenter, when she was stricken with typhoid fever and after suffering two weeks death relieved her and now she has gone on before. Miss Gladys was a regular attendant at the Baptist church and her sweet voice was always heard in the choir often delighting the congregation with a choice solo. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Sebe Thomas and Rev. W. A. Randle after which the body was laid to rest in the city cemetery followed by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. (8 Jul 1909, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Miss Gladys L. Branham, sister of Mrs. F. H. Carpenter, died July 1, 1909, at the residence of her sister of typhoid fever. Sermon at the Baptist church July 3. The deceased was a well known young lady who leaves behind a list of sorrowing friends. The interment was at the Elk City cemetery.
