(18 Oct 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF GRANDMA BREWER. Mrs. P. W. Brewer was born in Alabama, 1837. When eight years old she moved with her parents to Texas. He was married to Preston W. Brewer in 1856. This couple spent their earlier married life on the frontier of Texas, being one of the first families to move to west central Texas. Mrs. Brewer, or "Grandma Brewer" as she was known to all, reared a family of five sons and one daughter to be grown. Three sons and the daughter still survive to mourn the loss of a precious mother. Her husband died in 1907 and since that time she has made her home with her son, W. P. Brewer, until her death which came Thursday evening, October 4th. The remains were laid to rest in the Dempsey cemetery beside her husband. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Martin. The funeral services were attended by all the old settlers. Grandma had been suffering for five years from a stroke of paralysis, which left her helpless. She had another light stroke which caused her death. Mrs. Brewer was a good christian, loved by all who knew her. Her home was always open to the stranger and her friends, who ever - received a happy welcome from her. She had been a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years.
