Jake Brooks was called to Hobart Friday night on account of the serious illness of his brother, who died about thirty minutes after his arrival. Jake's friends extend him their sincere sympathy. The following was taken from Hobart paper: DeWitt Clinton Brooks, Died at Family Home Saturday. DeWitt Clinton Brooks, 40 years old, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning after a brief illness of pneumonia superinduced by the flu. He was the son of D. C. and M. E. Brooks and was born near Hillsboro, Texas, July 11, 1879, and is survived by his mother, Mrs. M. E. Brooks of Abbott, Texas, three brothers, four sisters, wife and three children. Deceased was employed by F. W. Nelson and was well known to a large circle of friends. During the Spanish-American war he was in the army two years and was wounded twice in the left arm. He was married in Hobart to Miss Effie Smith, June 23, 1908, and to the union three children were born. He was a member of the local lodges, I. O. O. F. and W. O. W. The funeral services will be held from the family home in the northwest part of town, Sunday at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. C. W. Estes.
