GEORGE BROWLEE (sic) DEAD. Words fail to express the sorrow of the News-Democrat family in the death of Mrs. Brownlee, wife of George A. Brownlee, one of the members of our office force. She passed away yesterday, April 23rd, 1925, after an illness of several weeks. It was known she was in a serious condition and the only thing left to do was an operation, and little hope was given in that, but her loved ones had done everything they could and were hoping that this would be the means of her recovery. She seemed to stand the operation and spoke in her usual manner to her loved ones but the surgeon could give them no hope. She began to sink and soon passed away. Stasie Garrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Garrett, was born July 4th, 1894. She lived most of her life on homestead near Cheyenne and in Elk City. She was married to George A. Brownlee, at Sayre, on December 7th, 1915, and their wedded life was a happy one. They lived part of the time in Kansas. When the husband was in the service, she came to Elk City to be with her parents. Mrs. Brownlee was a member of the Christian Church and was faithful and devoted to same until she was called to the church triumphant. She had a happy disposition and always tried to make sunshine for others with her smiling face and kind words. Little did anyone think of the pain covered up with her sunny smile for she was not the kind to weary others with her illness. The doctor and nurses at hospital say they never had anyone quite so patient and that everything they did was always all right. Her kind disposition will be missed, yet the bereaved can take comfort in the words "weep not as those who have no hope" for her life has left many fragrant flowers in memorys bouquet. She leaves to mourn her loss her heartbroken husband, parents, two brothers, Hugh and Fred Garrett and one sister, Bernice Garrett, all of Elk City. The funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church on Sunday April 26 at 2:30 p.m. The members of the Rebekahs, of which she was a member, will attend in a body. The body will lie in state at the home of A. J. Garrett on West 3rd Street where it may be viewed by friends Friday and Saturday afternoons. Grubitz and Son have charge of the arrangements. (28 Apr 1925, The Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. BROWNLEE LAID TO REST. Funeral services for Mrs. George Brownlee were held from the Christian Church in Elk City, Monday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the pastor Rev. C. H. Lemmex, who told of the splendid Christian character of Mrs. Brownlee and the fortitude with which she suffered. Beautiful music was rendered by the choir, and the Rebekah lodge of which she was a member attended in a body. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful, attesting the love and esteem in which she was held. A splendid floral piece came from the Rebekah's, as well as many from friends. The News-Democrat office in which Mr. Brownlee was employed was closed in her honor and his fellow workers attended in a body. Everything which could be done to ease the heart-aches of the bereaved ones was done, and every honor paid the deceased, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery to await the Resurrection morn. The family extend their thanks to all who assisted them and for the flowers and words of comfort.
