The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ *********************************************************************** BRYAN Vera Morgan Bera Morgan Bryan was born Feburary 6, 1905 in Carpenter, Oklahoma Territory to Ruth Jane Stratton and John Blackburn Morgan. She passed away February 23, 2002 in the Hensley Nursing Home of Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 97 years and 17 days. Vera's mother's family, the Strattons, homesteaded in western Oklahoma in 1898. This farm later became the site of Carpenter, Oklahoma. Vera's paternal grandparents came to western Oklahoma in 1899 and settled on a farm 8 miles north of Elk City, which was then called Busch. Vera first attended school in Elk City. Later, she attended the Carpenter Consolidated School until the family moved to Tipton, when Vera was 14. After living in Tipton, Vera's family moved to Snyder, where she attended high school and then the family moved to a farm in the Merritt community. She married Lonnie Lester Bryan at Elk City, Oklahoma on November 7, 1926 and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1971. They made their home in Elk City where Mrs Bryan was employed by the Armour Packing plant from the day it opened, May 1, 1928 until it closed in Feburary 1960. She and her husband also owned and operated Bryan's Plant Farm beginning in 1928 until 1973. Mrs. Bryan was a member of the Second and Adams Church of Christ in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers, Averett, Vivian, Lilburn and Van. Services wil be held Tuesday February 26, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Whinery-Savage Chapel, officiated by Tom Harguess. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Survivors include one daughter, Muriel Gore and husband Merle of Elk City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Mike Rogers and wife Dale of Moore, Oklahoma, Kathy Dean and husband Norman of Moore, Oklahoma, Karol Swinehart of Edmond, Oklahoma; five great grandchildren, Jay Rogers and wife Wendy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; John Rogers of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bryan Dean of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Brooke Dlugonski and husband Heath of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mark Swinewhart of Edmond, Oklahoma; one sister, Elgin Fern Henry of Kingsburg, California; three brothers, Delmas Morgan of Torrance, California, Hershal Morgan of Carlsbad, California; Jim Morgan of Levelland, Texas; one great great grandchild, Cooper Rogers of Oklahoma City; two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
