John Buchanan, lately from Shamrock, Texas, and whom we spoke of recently, having been given a life membership in the Masonic lodge at that place, was taken ill last week with pneumonia at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. L. Brown, where he with his wife were spending the winter. From the time he was taken sick, it was known he was in a serious condition, and relatives away from here were sent for, and while everything was done for him that was possible to do, he kept getting worse, when death relieved him of his sufferings on Tuesday morning. He would have been seventy-eight years old next Saturday. He was born in Caven Co., Ireland, coming to this country when about ten years of age. He was a member of the Episcopalian church, to which he was a devoted member. We had met him several times and enjoyed so much conversing with him, for he was very bright mentally and it was truly a pleasure to talk with him. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon, under the auspices of the Masonic order, which he loved so devotedly, and of which he had been a member for nearly fifty years. Rev. Boyse spoke words of comfort to the bereaved ones, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Fairlawn cemetery, Grubitz and Son being in charge. The deceased leaves a wife and four daughters and two sons who have the deepest sympathy of the Elk City people in the death of this noble husband and father.
