BURKE DEAD. Miss Josephine C. Plemmons was born in the eastern part of the good old state of Tennessee on February 22, 1870. She was united with Jim Burke in the holy bonds of matrimony on the 7th day of April 1886. To this union were born two children, one died in infancy, the other, Bessie, died in this city something over 7 years ago. Mr. Burke, his wife and daughter were members of the M. E. Church South. Mrs. Burke was of a kind and loving disposition, she impressed all with whom she associated with her gentle spirit. In health she was "a chaste keeper at home" trying at all times to be a real wife and a congenial companion to her devoted husband. Mr. Leeper who has made his home with them for the last twenty-two years tells me that he never saw a more congenial home and that both Mr. Burke and his beloved wife sought to do all to increase the happiness of the other possible. During the last fifteen months of her life she was confined to her bed the most of the time. She was first taken to El Reno for treatment but receiving no material benefits or encouragement from the physicians there she returned to her home in this city where she remained until death. Her husband gave up his work and spent his whole time in seeing after and caring for her. In this work he was rendered valuable assistance by faithful neighbors and friends whose kindness he will never forget. Shortly after moving to this place in December 1920 I learned of Mrs. Burke's condition and my wife and I with some of the lady members of our congregation called to see her. From that time until she breathed her last some of us have been with her regularly. We thank God for this opportunity to do good. In keeping with her own desires she was put away as nearly like her daughter as possible. She requested that her funeral be conducted at the M. E. Church South and that the writer have charge of same with our singers to make the music. In carrying out her wishes we held a brief song and prayer service at the home at 2 p.m. The sermon was preached at the church already indicated. The corpse was a most beautiful one and also the casket shroud. Many members of the family, including her father were present, and all felt keenly the weight of their loss. She was without question a good woman. Interment was made at 3 p.m. on December 26, 1921, in the family lot in the East Fair Lawn cemetery in the presence of relatives, neighbors and a host of sympathizing friends.
