BURKS DIES SUDDENLY LAST FRIDAY. Last Friday morning C. W. Burks received a message from Enid that his mother, Mrs. P. T. Burks, had died suddenly that morning from heart trouble. Her death was a great surprise to him, as he had received a letter from her, only the day before stating that she was feeling fine. A letter written by her was received the day she died by Claud Burks at this place. Claud and C. W., with their sister, Mrs. C. C. Goodwin of this city and Mrs. C. L. Burch of Sayre, went that afternoon to Enid to be present at the funeral services. Mrs. Burks was a former citizen of Elk City and the news of her death was received with sorrow by her many friends. (3 Feb 1921, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. C. L. Burch was called to Enid, Oklahoma, last week by the announcement of the death of her mother, Mrs. P. T. Burks. The latter will be remembered as a former resident of this city, conducting a boarding house here in 1910 and 1911. (18 Feb 1921, Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): In a quiet little southern home in Jefferson, Texas, nearly sixty-five years ago, Ada Milner was born. While yet in her infancy she moved with her parents to New Orleans where she grew into young woman-hood, and later with her parents, moved to Pilot Point, Texas. She was married to P. T. Burks, Feb. 21, 1872, and to this union were born twelve children, three died in infancy and one, Mrs. Hallmark, died in 1919, at the age of twenty-five years. Mrs. Hallmark was a twin of Mrs. Ila Glasgow, of Webb City, Missouri. One of her greatest pleasures was that of seeing her children united with the Central Christian church of which she had been a devoted member for forty-five years. Mrs. Burks is survived by her husband, P. T. Burks, two sons, Claude and Charles of Elk City, six daughters, Mrs. Ollie Burch of Sayre, Oklahoma; Mrs. Eva Walton of Alve (sic), Oklahoma; Mrs. Cora Nichols of Okumulgee, Oklahoma; Mrs. Myrtle Goodwin of Elk City; Mrs. Una Smith of this city and Mrs. Ila Glasgow of Webb City, Missouri. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Smith, 1224 West Main street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. A. G. Smith had charge of the services and burial was made in the Enid cemetery. - Enid Eagle.
