(2 Sep 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): RITES READ FOR W. A. BURRAN. Pioneer Settler of Western Country Succumbs at Austin, Texas. Funeral services for William A. Burran, 91, pioneer settler in this section, were held Sunday afternoon in Spearman, Texas. Mr. Burran is the grandfather of Raymond Parman, of this city. Besides homesteading on land 25 miles northwest of Elk City, before statehood, Mr. Burran owned a general merchandise store and was postmaster at a settlement in that vicinity, known then as Brantly. Mr. Burran was a veteran of the Civil War. He died in the old soldier's home in Tustin (sic), Texas. He was born in Georgia and came to Oklahoma before statehood. Six children survive Mr. Burran. They are: Mrs. Eva Wilbanks and Robert Burran of Spearman, Tex., Mrs. Betty Barbour, of Dalhart, Texas; Mrs. Kate Ferguson of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. John Griffis of Higgins, Tex.; and Sid Barran of Booker, Texas.
