W. BYNUM. The funeral of W. W. Bynum was held last Friday afternoon at the Baptist Church, Rev. Bowles, officiating. The pall-bearers, dressed in uniform, were Sgt. Chas. Small, N. M. Banks, Glen Blair, Wiley Vinson, Loyd Choat and Welcome VanVacter. Music was furnished by members of the Baptist choir. After the services the interment in charge of Grubitz & Son was held at Fairlawn Cemetery, the body being laid to rest by the side of his brother, Pete, who died a few years ago. Willie Wesley Bynum was the son of Mrs. W. E. Gilkey, was born March 14, 1890, at Pottsborro, Texas, and died at Lawton, Okla., March 15th, 1920, aged 30 years and 1 day. During the late war, the deceased was Sergeant of Company K of the 359th Infantry Regiment. He enlisted April 25th, 1918, at Wichita Falls, Texas. He was in several battles being at Villers-en-Haye Sect., August 24 to Sept 11, 1918, at St. Mihiel Sept. 12, 1918 and at Meuse Argonne, Oct. 22 to Nov. 11, 1918. He received a gun-shot wound while in action at St. Mihiel. His discharge papers give his character as "Excellent." Among those present at the funeral were his brothers, Tobe Bynum of Memphis, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bynum and son of Lawton and Mrs. Pete Bynum. Much sympathy is expressed for the devoted mother and other relatives in this sad hour. (26 Mar 1920, Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Sergeant Willie Wesley Bynum, member of Company K, No. 359th Infantry, with an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army of occupation, died at Wichita Falls, March 15. In overseas duty he was engaged in several battles: at Villieres in Hayes Sector, Aug. 24, to Sept. 11, 1918; St. Mihiel offensive Sept. 12, 1918; the Meuse-Argonne offensive Oct. 21 to Nov. 1, 1918. He went over the top twice and was wounded once. Sergt. Bynum was well known here. He was born at Pottsboro, Texas, and enlisted in the army when twenty-eight years of age. He leaves a wife, a mother and two brothers. Rev. Bowles officiated at funeral services at the Baptist church of this city, and military honors were given by Major Palmer's unit of this city.
