Washington. She had been ill since last Saturday with follicular tonsilitis, but it was thought Wednesday that she was recovering nicely, when she contracted diptheria, resulting in her death in six hours. The funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon with interment in Fairlawn cemetery. (30 Dec 1920, Elk City News-Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. BELLE CADLE DEAD. The holiday season in Elk City was saddened last Thursday morning when the word went over the city that Mrs. Belle Cadle had passed away. Many did not know she had been sick and the news of her death came as a shock to all. She had been home a few days suffering from tonsilitis, and on Wednesday enquiring friends learned she was better, but later the disease developed into diptheria, from which she died a few hours later. Because of the disease from which she died the funeral services were held at the cemetery, Rev. Hamilton officiating. Interment was held at the Fairlawn cemetery, in charge of Grubitz & Son. Belle Canavan was born January 15, 1877 in Humbolt, Iowa. Was married to J. F. Cadle November 15, 1893. Four children were born to this union, a little eight year old daughter dying in 1906. The remaining children are, Mrs. Mable McDaniels of this city, Ray Cadle of Coffeeville, Kansas, and Emmet Cadle of Cushing, Oklahoma. Mrs. Cadle was a sister of M. V. Canavan, county clerk of Beckham county, who made his home with her until he went to Sayre to take his office there. She also leaves one sister Miss Mary Canavan and four other brothers who are Ed and J. S. Canavan of Elk City, J. L. Canavan of Canute and W. P. Canavan of Oklahoma City. Mrs. Cadle was always looking after the interest of her sisters and brothers, and they went to her for advise. She was a loving and devoted mother. The grief of her loved ones was great, for they realize they have lost one who loved them and was always interested in their welfare. (a line missing). She was recently elected to membership of the Eastern Star, but was not able to go to the last meeting to be initiated. Mrs. Cadle was a quiet retiring lady, had been working with the Johnson Tailor Shop for nearly three years, and before that was with the Elk City Steam Laundry for about seven years. She was faithful and the proprietors always spoke highly of her. She had a wide acquaintance and all regretted to hear of her death. The News-Democrat extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones. (30 Dec 1920, Thursday, Sayre Standard, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. CADLE DIES AT ELK CITY. The sad news of the death of Mrs. Belle Cadle at Elk City was received here last Thursday to mar the Christmas joy for M. V. Canavan, county clerk, who was a brother to Mrs. Cadle. Mr. and Mrs. Canavan attended the funeral at Elk City on Friday, or Christmas Eve. Mrs. Cadle has two sons and one daughter to mourn her death. Her daughter is Mrs. R. P. McDaniel, who was a resident of this city for several months during this year. Her husband was bookkeeper for the Diamond "G" Dry Goods Store. The many friends of Mr. Canavan join the Standard in sympathy during his great bereavement over the loss of his sister. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
