M. CARSON. I. L. Hoover received notice of the death of W. M. Carson, at Peru, Ind. Mr. Carson had a claim near Rankin, we believe and about ten years ago he moved to Elk City, where he and his son, Merritt, had a shoe repairing business. The following obituary was published in the Peru, Ind., paper: Washington Malick Carson Washington Malick Carson, son of John H. and Juliet B. Carson, was born in Jennings county, Indiana, on March 24, 1843, and departed this life February 6, 1918, at the age of seventy-four years, ten months and thirteen days. Mr. Carson's death took place at the National Soldier's Home at Marion, Ind., where he had been but a short time. He served in Company C, Indiana Volunteers. He was a member of the order of Odd Fellows for more than fifty years. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Tweedy, daughter of Andrew and Emily Tweedy, of Lovatt, Jennings county, Indiana, on November 2, 1865. His wife preceeded him to the spirit world on March 2, 1903, at the age of fifty-seven years, two months and ten days. To this union were born seven children, four of whom passed away at an early age. The surviving children are John H. of New Waverly, Ind.; William E. and Merit (sic) E. of Peru. Six grandchildren survive, Mrs. Mary B. Conrad, Miss Ruth Carson and Mrs. Elizabeth Bowman, of Peru; Mrs. Mabel Bowden, of Hilsdale (sic), Mich., and F. Gage and George W. Carson of New Waverly; five great-grandchildren, Carson C., Virginia and Warren Conrad of Peru, and Mildred and John Henry Bowden of Hillsdale, Mich. He also leaves brothers, William M. and D. R., of Twelve Mile, Ind., and Isaac Thomas, of Whiteland, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Mary Pennock, of Logansport, and many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. He has been in failing health for the last eighteen months and about eight weeks ago was stricken with heart disease and complications from which he never recovered. At the time of his death he was not a member of any church, but was a firm believer in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, and the final triumph of right over all wrong, which was manifested in his honest upright life. He spent a number of years in Oklahoma, where he still owned a fine tract of land. About seven years ago he returned to Indiana. His genial manner and jovial disposition, made for him many friends wherever he went. The funeral services were held at the Salem church on February 8, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Beckett. Interment in Rankin cemetery.
