M. Carter died at her home on West Fifth street Tuesday afternoon, May 25th. She had been in declining health for many months, having spent almost a year in the Southern Baptist Sanatorium in El Paso, Texas. About two months ago she returned to her home in Elk City, apparently much improved, but soon contracted influenza and pneumonia, which rapidly took her away. Mrs. Carter was a most estimable christian woman, and her death is a distinct loss, not only to her family and friends, but also to the First Baptist church, of which she was a devout member. She was born near McKinney, Texas, August 3, 1897. When 16 years of age she was united with the Baptist church and throughout her life she was born ample testimony to her faith in Christ. She was married to P. M. Carter March 26, 1916. She leaves her husband, three children, ages nine, seven and four years, her father and mother, one brother and a small sister, besides a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted from the First Baptist church, the pastor Rev. L. D. Mitchell, officiating. The rostrum was profusely decorated with beautiful floral offering from many friends, and the church was filled with people of the city and surrounding community, who came to attest their love and friendship to Mrs. Carter and her loves ones. CARD OF THANKS. We take this method of expressing our thanks and appreciations to our many friends and neighbors for the assistance, words of kindness and the floral offering during the sickness and death of our beloved wife, daughter and mother, Mrs. P. M. Carter. P. M. Carter, Frank Carter, Ivan Carter, Clyde Carter, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Eggers and family. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
